It’s a big week in the Brunswick East recording studios for episode 135, featuring Jack, our newly crowned Australian record holder for the indoor 5000m. In this episode, we break down his race and training week before diving into our usual segments.
TRAINING WEEKS
Jack kicks things off by sharing his training week, followed by a breakdown of his race at the BU Terrier DMR Challenge, where he set the new Australian record in the 5000m. Tess and Joel also had strong training weeks as they prepare for their upcoming races.
THE BIG Q
The team discusses a question sent in by an FTK listener - Aaron Bark. Aaron wants to know whether it’s better to split his double-run days by running more in the morning or evening as he transitions into marathon training.
GIVE SOME KUDOS
Joel gives a shout-out to friend of the show, Logan, and his new haircut. Tess recommends visiting Paul, aka The Balanced Runner, to improve your running technique, and Jack gives kudos to indoor tracks.
TWHSOITWTWATSA
Joel kicks things off with a post from his favorite Instagram page. Jack isn’t sure about a track team using olive oil to keep warm, and Tess is skeptical about the recent 3k record set by an 11-year-old—accidentally.

Episode #83 kicks off with all the regular FTK "Friend Of The Show" housekeeping before reminding the listeners to use the password FTK for a discount on Maurie Plant Meet tickets. Due to a scheduling conflict we've brought forward our live show to Wednesday the 14th of February at Runners Paradise. Following the free-to-attend 6:00pm shop run FTK will be hosting a special unrecorded live-talk with special guests Jack Rayner and Stewy McSweyn who are racing the 5000m and Mile respectively at the Maurie Plant Meet. As for training weeks Brett lays down his last big week at altitude before he begins his taper into Marugame Half Marathon and Joel finally cracks the triple digits in mileage (for the first time in six months). Brett & Riley speak to Brooke Feldmeier - an American 800m athlete who started training under Nic Bideau with MTC last year. Brooke opens up about her unorthodox entry into the sport and talks about how her change in training style has seen her stay injury free in the lead up to next months Maurie Plant Meet.

In episode 74 Brett takes us through another week of training at altitude as he prepares for Fukuoka Marathon. The week starts off lonely but ends on a higher note as the rest of his MTC training partners join him on the mountain. Joel tackles a solo session down in Rye as he begins to see glimpses of fitness returning. You'll then hear an interview with Jack Rayner as he sits down with Riley Wolff for a far more professional conversation (compared to what you hear on LLL&R) as Jack prepares for another Australian title at the upcoming On Track Nights Zatopek:10 in December.

Straight off the back of his Australian Cross Country Championship title Jack Rayner nestles in between Brett and Joel on the FTK couch to record episode 66. We hear Jack reflect on his disappointing European season of racing and why he thinks he was able to bounce back so quickly to take the win at Stromlo over the weekend. The three guys go over their training weeks together with plenty of shit-talking thrown in. There's yet another competition announcement thanks to Runners Paradise, available to those who purchased our recent FTK merch. As always the episode closes out with everyone's favourite segment. You heard it here first: There's going to be a new special ongoing series for our patreon supporters. We can't give away the details on who's going to feature on the new series however a clue is they were all involved in episode #66 and their names rhyme with Fret, Back and Pole.

One of our most anticipated guest appearances has finally landed. Having served his lengthy sentence on the FTK ban-list, episode 35 welcomes Jack Rayner to the studio (although the recording plays more like a casual café chat between best mates). Joel kicks the training weeks off with two of his best workouts in a long time, only to be swiftly overshadowed by Brett & Jack's last joint training week. The pair are currently in the air on their way to Japan (Brett racing and Jack pacing). The episode closes out with a bunch of listener questions for Jack.

With less than a month until Fukuoka Marathon Brett completes one of his fastest endurance workouts to date but it's not all smooth sailing for him this week. Joel has a rocky start to the week but shows signs of momentum towards the tail end as he discovers the reason for his recent fatigue. Jack Rayner is the hilarious victim of one of the TWHSOITWTWATSA submissions and the episode closes out with an interview from The Blue Line writer Elise Beacom.
