Back on the podcast is my good friend, Sam Parsoni. And today, here's here to spill the tea. He's not holding back. You the listener will be blessed being a fly on the wall for a conversation that is normally reserved for private-conversations. Sam is a free-agent and goes IN-DEPTH on the realities of the sport, the ins and outs of contracts, how companies take advantage of athletes, his hope for the future, all the updates on Tinman Elite, and more. If you don't know who Sam Parsons, you've probably been sleeping under a rock. Or you just didn't recognize that name because I exclusively call him Sam Parsoni. But to bring you up to speed, he's represented Germany at the 2019, 2022, and 2023 World Athletics Championships. Sam had a terrific high school career, running 1:58 in the 800, 4:12 in the Mile, 9:00 in the 3200, and 14:47 in the 5K. He qualified for Nike XC Nationals as a senior. At NC State, Sam ran 3:44 in the 1500, 13:52 in the 5K, and 28:43 in the 10K. He was a 4-time participant at the NCAA XC Championships, finishing as high as 51st at the 2016 Division 1 XC Champs with a time of 30:33. Sam signed his first pro deal in 2018 with Adidas. Sam currently holds PRs of 3:36.22 in the 1500m, 3:54 in the Mile, 7:39 in the 3k, 13:12 in the 5k, and 28:43 in the 10k. In today's conversation, we cover all of Sam's updates, how much I need to pay him to rock a singlet of my choosing, the ins and outs of pro-contracts, and so much more. This one is packed with info and discussion that you won't find anywhere else. Do not miss it! Tap into the Sam Parsons Special. For those of you new; Pillar Peformance is a sports micronutrition company, who have developed products that intersect between pharmaceutical intervention & sports supplements for athletes. The easiest way to describe it is, hydration and fueling products will take you through to the finish line. PILLAR will get you to the start line, in your best condition, over and over again. The Triple Magnesium is my personal favourite. Like many pro runners such as, Brett Robinson, Charlotte Purdue, Sam Parsons and members of the OAC (George Mills, Tom Elmer). Pillar Peformance has changed the game for my sleep and recovery scores on my Garmin. The product is the brainchild of world renowned ‘father of HRV research’ Dr Dan Plews, and incorporates a leading dose of Magnesium Glycinate. The real kicker though, is how delicious it is!

While many professional runners only share the highlight reel of their career, Sam is one of the few who is willing to dive deep into the dark side of the sport. Today's conversation was extremely enlightening through Sam sharing his journey over the past few months. We also dive into his famous "bee-sting workout" and if he'll return for Payday at 5th Ave.

“I just kind of wanted to write my own narrative of what it meant to be a professional runner. I knew coming out of college, I just didn’t want to give up on that dream. It was super important for me to do what I was passionate about and take a chance on myself. That meant moving to Boulder instead of moving to San Francisco and going to work at a 9-5 tech job. Basically, it’s been not giving up on myself knowing I have a lot more to give to the sport…”
My guest for today’s episode is Joey Berriatua. This is actually the first podcast episode that I recorded in person in a while and I’m glad it’s with someone who has an appreciation for CITIUS MAG from its start in 2017. Just a few years back, Joey was a diehard Citius fan. He’d buy all the merch we’d put out. He’d listen to all the podcasts, DM us and he was running some solid times at Santa Clara. Sometime around 2018 and once his eligibility was over, he decided to continue his running career and he connected with Sam Parsons and Tinman Elite. He’s seen some big improvements since his move to Boulder and he’s on the cusp of breaking four minutes for the mile. I believe he’s running a mile this weekend, which would be cool to see him finally get under. We talk about how we got to this point, why he took this risk on himself, some people give Tinman a hard time and how he takes that criticism plus what’s the endgame in this pursuit. It’s funny because when I showed up to the Tinman house, I didn’t know I’d be sitting down with Joey so there were no notes and no questions written down for this one. Just two of us having a candid and honest conversation. Enjoy!
