Today's podcast guest was one of my dream guests for the past few years. His name is Coach Chris Miltenberg, and he has heavily influenced many of the individuals who have influenced me and shaped me into the person I am today. He is one of the greatest coaches in NCAA history, and, more importantly, a man who has contributed to the lives of hundreds of athletes over the years.
Coach Milt has achieved remarkable achievements at Stanford University and the University of North Carolina. Under his leadership, UNC's teams achieved significant milestones, qualifying for the NCAA Cross Country Championships and earning high ACC finishes. Coach Milt's athletes consistently earned All-America honors and excelled at NCAA Championships. During his tenure at Stanford, the teams secured ten podium finishes in NCAA Championship competitions, with the men's track and field/cross country program winning the John McDonnell Division I Program of the Year in 2019. His coaching prowess was evident as he led the women's cross-country team at Georgetown University to a national championship in 2011. Additionally, Coach Milt emphasizes academic excellence, with numerous scholar-athlete recognitions for his athletes. Throughout his career, he has been recognized for inspiring dedication and excellence in his athletes, both on and off the field. Coach Milt's legacy as one of the sport's most exceptional and influential coaches is evident in his transformative impact and outstanding achievements.
In summary, Coach Milt is not only a transformative force in the world of track and field coaching, but also a mentor and leader who instills a deep sense of dedication and excellence in his athletes. His impressive array of accomplishments, both on and off the field, stands as a testament to his enduring legacy as one of the sport's most exceptional and influential coaches.
Today's conversation is a wide-ranging discussion on topics relating to success and excellence. Drawing from Coach's Milt's experiences both as an athlete and coach, I ask a plethora of questions that explore the depths of distance running and what it takes to be a world-class runner and build a successful team.
This is one of my favorite episodes I've ever recorded, and I hope you'll take the time to listen and learn from it.

Today on the podcast is a man who has been on fire recently, Sean McGorty!
Sean is an OG guest of The Running Effect, so it is always a joy to bring him back on and soak up his wisdom. Recently, Sean placed third in both the 5k & 10k at this year's US Championships. He will rep the red, white, and blue on the big stage next month in Budapest for the 2023 World Championships. In his most recent race, he ran a PR of 13:02.13 in the 5k to gain the World and Olympic standard. Sean runs for Nike and The Bowerman Track Club.
For those who aren't familiar with Sean, he has a long history of success from the time he was in high school. In high school, he won more state-championships and had more accolades than one could remember. In college, Sean became an NCAA Champion in the 5k at Stanford University and pushed forward that program to a new level in his years of representing the farm.
In today's conversation, Sean pulls back the curtain on his past ten months of ups and downs. He shares exclusive stories, insights, and wisdom from his journey and all of the different things that have gone on since our last conversation. He discusses his injury from this past winter and how he managed to come back and make the World Championships by placing 3rd in both the 5k and 10k. He goes through this in a deep way that I found fascinating and drew a lot of inspiration from. Today's conversation is one of the best and most inspiring in the history of the podcast. Period.

Back for his third appearance on the podcast is the man, the myth, the legend, Sean McGorty. Sean is fresh off of making his first US national team in the 10k!
Last Friday, Sean placed third in USATF 10k National Championships. This race was as thrilling as they come. Sean was in sixth with 110m to go and he used a monster kick to make his dream come true of representing his country on a global stage.
Sean has had five significant surgeries in the last five years. When many people would have thrown in the towel, Sean kept working and dreaming. Setback after setback couldn’t hold Sean back. Some call him the King of Comebacks.
This episode was a really fun one! Sean and I both basically had a 47min conversation and it just happened to be recorded (: nothing too serious or formal, just two friends talking about some recent events! We also go through your listener questions. We even take one from the legend himself Mathew Centrowitz. Please like, subscribe, and share with your friends to help us out! You can also give us a five-star review on Spotify (:
