Trayvon Bromell ran 9.91 to win the Paris Diamond League 100m and hand Noah Lyles his first outdoor loss of the 2026 season. After crossing the line Bromell turned to the cameras with a look that said exactly what he wanted it to say: I'm still here. Then on Twitter. Lyles posted that "careful there, Trayvon, the last time someone looked over at me, they didn't even make the podium next time we met" as a reference to Oblique Seville beating him at the 2024 Olympic semifinal before pulling up injured in the final. Mac gets into the bigger argument the conversation kept circling back to: Noah Lyles is the only sprinter in the world right now who genuinely cares about head-to-head racing. In near-perfect conditions following a week of brutal French heat, Sunday’s Paris Diamond League produced three Diamond League records.
In this episode:
– Audrey Werro came to Paris explicitly targeting the women’s 800m world record and ran a personal best of 1:53.80 — a Diamond League record, meet record, world lead, and Swiss national record. She’s now the only woman ever with multiple sub-1:54 performances (three of them, all this season). The world record is 1:53.28, set by Jarmila Kratochvílová in 1983. Werro is 0.52 back.
– Femke Broeders-Bol’s 800m transition is real. The reigning 400m hurdles world champion ran 1:55.60 in the 800m — a massive personal best — finishing second behind Werro’s Diamond League record. Her move to the 800m is no longer an experiment.
– Cam Myers ran 3:28.00 in the Paris Diamond League 1500m — a personal best by over a second, the 27th fastest time in history, and faster than Jakob Ingebrigtsen at the same age (Jakob ran 3:28.68 at 20). Myers beat a field that included 3:27 man Azeddine Habz and 2025 World Championship medalists Jake Wightman and Reynold Cheruiyot
– What it all means for the Bowerman Mile at the Prefontaine Classic
– Grant Fisher won the Paris Diamond League 5000m in 12:54.80, edging Jacob Krop (12:55.22) and Andreas Almgren (12:55.38) in a stacked field where ten athletes broke 13:00. The win also marked the fifth Diamond League victory by an American men’s mid-distance runner in 2026 — the most ever in a single year, with seven meets still remaining.
– Marco Arop dominates the men’s 800m. He confirmed after the race that he intends to go for the record this year: “Clearly I’m in shape for it”
– Trayvon Bromell beats Noah Lyles and there’s Twitter comments afterward by the Olympic champion
– Jamal Britt runs 12.89 PB in Paris — his 10th win of 2026, his 12th meet since April
– Collen Kebinatshipi runs 43.54 Diamond League record in Paris.

Chris Chavez and Preet Majithia break down a chaotic weekend in American track and field headlined by a lead vehicle disaster at the USATF Half Marathon Championships and a slate of big results at the USATF Indoor Championships.
Discussed:
– The 2026 USATF Half Marathon Championships in Atlanta were thrown into chaos when a lead vehicle guided the top women off course in the final mile with Jess McClain holding a big lead at the time. Molly Born, who stayed on course, won in 69:43. McClain, Emma Grace Hurley and Ednah Kurgat all filed appeals immediately after.
– USATF’s jury of appeals acknowledged the course was inadequately marked but said it had “no recourse within the rulebook” to alter the results, which was a ruling that drew widespread backlash. Atlanta Track Club CEO Rich Kenah took full responsibility.
– Because the race served as the selection event for the 2026 World Athletics Road Running Championships in Copenhagen, the wrong turn didn’t just cost the leaders prize money but also potentially cost them spots on Team USA. The selection situation is a tangled mess with no clean fix under current rules.
– Cole Hocker won the men’s 3,000m in a blanket finish in 7:39.25. Young missed the World Indoor team by .01 to Yared Nuguse after drifting off the rail in the home straight.
– Emily Mackay won the women’s 3,000m in a five-second personal best of 8:30.01, outkicking Elle St. Pierre in the final stretch for her first US title.
– Hocker and Yared Nuguse then faded to 5th and 4th in Sunday’s 1500m, won by former UW teammates Nathan Green and Luke Houser.
– 17-year-old Cooper Lutkenhaus went 5-for-5 as a professional, winning the men’s 800m in 1:46.68 with a tactically sharp performance.
– Nikki Hiltz extended their US title streak to eight, winning the women’s 1500m in 4:11.34.
– Jordan Anthony won the men’s 60m in 6.45, beating Trayvon Bromell and Noah Lyles.
Plus: Tokyo Marathon recap, the Louis Hinchcliffe NCAA return and the Iowa State/Seth Clevenger doping investigation.
