WORLD ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS DAY 7 RECAP

We’re a full week into the World Championships and the meet just keeps getting better! Chris Chavez, Kyle Merber, and Jasmine Todd are joined again by Mitch Dyer to break down the electric 200m finals on both the men’s and women’s sides, the women’s triple jump where Yulimar Rojas secured gold on her final jump, the stacked 4x100m relay semifinals, and much more.

Day 7’s most notable moments include:

– Women’s 200m: Shericka Jackson won with a 21.41 championship record and 2nd fastest mark of all time + Americans Gabby Thomas and Sha’Carri Richardson took silver and bronze respectively.

– Men’s 200m: Four days after his 100m victory, Noah Lyles returned to the top of the podium with his third straight gold in the 200m with a 19.52 win + the silver and bronze medals went to Erriyon Knighton and Letsile Tebogo.

– Women’s triple jump: After sitting in 8th place heading into her final attempt, Yulimar Rojas leapt 15.08m to win over Maryna Bekh-Romanchuk’s 15.00m jump.

– Keely Hodgkinson ran 1:58.48 for the fastest time heading into the final + Athing Mu got tripped up during the race but managed to qualify for the final with a 1:58.78.

– Men’s 4x100m relay: Team USA and Team Jamaica both advanced smoothly to the final with the U.S. finishing just ahead, 37.67 to 37.68.

Track Snacks: Yulimar Rojas (Triple Jump Olympic Champion, World Champion + World Record Holder) – 14 Weeks 'Til World Championships!

Happy Friday! This is the first edition of Track Snacks – a short show taking you into the weekend where Chris Chavez and a fellow CITIUS MAG staffer share the story of an athlete who they're excited about right now that you can expect to see compete at the World Athletics Championships Oregon22 (July 15–24, 2022).

In this episode, David Melly joins the show to geek out about the brilliance of Venezuela's Yulimar Rojas. She is the reigning Olympic champion, world champion and indoor and outdoor world record holder in the women's triple jump. She most recently recorded the farthest jump in any setting ever by leaping 15.74 meters to win the World Indoor Championship triple jump gold medal in Belgrade, Serbia. She's been undefeated at every global championship since taking silver at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. We unpack other mind-blowing stats and share a little bit about her upbringing and coaching set-up.

Track Snacks is presented by Hayward Magic. Everyone knows how much all of us in the CITIUS MAG family love track & field, and how much we enjoy sharing that love with you all. Well, we’ve got a few big love-sharing ideas in the works and it all takes place in Eugene, Oregon this summer. Hayward Field will be the home to the Prefontaine Classic, the USATF Outdoor Championships and the World Athletics Championships. We'll be there and you should be too. TORCH TALK DAY 4: THE GREATEST 10 MINUTES IN ITALIAN TRACK AND FIELD HISTORY, YULIMAR ROJAS' WR, SIFAN HASSAN GETS KNOCKED DOWN BUT GETS BACK UP AGAIN

The golden hour of track and field on Day 4 included shared gold medals between friends Gianmarco Tamberi and Mutaz Barshim, a world record in the triple jump by Yuliar Rojas and a former long jumper winning the men’s 100m in the post-Usain Bolt era. Team Torch Talk is back at it and breaking down an incredibly exciting evening session of Day 3 and morning session of Day 4 in Tokyo. Medals were won, favorites didn’t make it through and apparently it is possible to have enough energy to run, fall down, do a somersault and get up and win your 1500m heat less than 12 hours before a 5000m final. Plus: Chris has a viral tweet...for now.

Also discussed in this episode:

- The fall between Isaiah Jewett and Nijel Amos that cost only one of them a trip to the finals

- Long jump madness that results in a Greek champion

- Fred Kerley's risk pays off massively and why he decided to go for the 100 meters in the first place

- Big Italian energy

+ Much More
