NYC Marathon Final Finishers

NYC Marathon ends when the last finisher crosses the line. After dark, and starting about 10 hours after Wave 1 initially left Staten Island, the finish line in Central Park becomes a celebration of endurance. Staff, volunteers, and the running community get together to make sure that the last finishers get a world major experience.

It’s no small thing to keep operating the finish line in the way that they do. With music, multiple finish line announcers, lights, multiple camera angles for the livestream, and the fact that they do not turn off the race clocks, the support for the final finishers is impressive.

Seeing race director @ted_deluxe there to welcome in the last finisher again reminds me how Ted is the kind of leader the running community needs. Like much of his staff, Ted was at the finish line to welcome in the first finisher of the race, and he was there to embrace the final finisher.
