Brooks makes what I think is a mid-year course correction on the Hyperion Elite 4, replacing the DNA Loft with the Peba we’ve all been asking for. The result is a fast shoe that improves so much on the original v4, but it’s still not exactly what I was hoping for. With the way the upper’s bumper pads reminded me of some of my favorite racing shoes, I was hoping this new shoe would be a 4% clone. Instead, it’s very much a Peba shoe that Brooks would make (which makes sense). The two sections of foam are very different, with the heel being too soft and the forefoot being too firm. It has more of a race flat feel than a super shoe feel, so while it is pretty fun for 400m and 800m repeats on the road, I’m not sure I’d want to race a marathon in these. I think I could race up to a half marathon in them.
