D3 Glory Days
As fans file into the Lavern Gibson Cross Country course, eager to spectate the best D3 distance running has to offer in 2024, they’ll be walking by a banner that features Tim Nelson, the 2012 champion forever immortalized on the course.
On that day in November, Tim went out hard. Pushing from the front from the first step, he built a seemingly insurmountable lead.
Entering the famous final stretch, the effort showed, he was losing steam. Fans held their breath wondering if he had done enough to win. He had. The win punctuated a career that saw the UW Stout distance runner go on a streak rarely seen in D3 history.
From being the 4th man to break 14 outdoors, to not losing a title his final track and cross country season, we cover it all on this episode.

The last time D3 XC Nationals was at Terre Haute, Christy Cazzola was the champion.
Not only do we learn about her legendary career, we hear about her thoughts from her win in Terre Haute.
Despite a few titles and a runner-up performance the year before, Christy wasn't so sure she would win in 2012. However, a few inspiring words from the fans made all difference. Make sure to listen for those words in the episode.
Cazzola fills us in on her decision to not immediately go to college. She tells us how she didn't feel ready and that decision led to one of the best D3 careers of all time.
Talking to a legendary D3 running is a blast because there is so much to cover. Thanks to Christy for her time!

The nation may not be ready for Mo Bati. He's has flown under the radar this year despite dominating performances.
We caught up with Mo and his coach to learn more about his story.
Mo came to the United States from Ethopia in 2018. He ran a little bit at the high school level but moved to the roads before attending Augsburg. He's run 63/2:18 for the half and full.
Last year, he put up big performances but fell short of making it to nationals.
He's learned from his mistakes and ready to see what he can accomplish this year.
Get to know Mo.

The D3 At-Large Window opened this year on September 28th. That means the John McNicholas invite didn't count and leaves a smaller window for team to earn quality wins.
D1 opened up September 13th and D2 opened up September 18th.
Johns Hopkins Coach, Bobby Van Allen, walked us through his proposal of moving up the window to 9 weeks prior to the national meet. It was passed at the coaches convention but the NCAA committee rejected.
He shares why opening up the window gives the committee a better opportunity to view a teams full resume, why can let team go run meets they want to run, and ultimately he doesn't want to eliminate the data.
We go more in-depth on the proposal and what other changes could benefit D3.

What if I told you this was Jules 8th cross country race ever?
The late bloomer to cross country is having a strong start to the season after qualifying for both national meets in track.
She played multiple sports in high school but stuck with running because she thought nothing else could match it.
When she got to RPI, she realized she was anemic and began getting more iron. Add in some more mileage and her times have dropped significantly.
She goes into how the team is handling the early season success and what they need to do to make the national meet.
