In episode fifty of The Running Effect, I speak with my good friend Elise Cranny. Elise is quickly cementing herself as one of the greatest American Women distance runners of all time. Just within the past thirteen months, she has won her first Olympic Trials (in the 5k), competed in her first Olympics, set a new American Record in the indoor 5k (14:33), and the second time in American History in the 10k (30:14).
Some of the topics we cover in this episode include:
-Her Olympic experience from racing to the exotic food
-Her American Record in the 5k and #2 time in the 10k
-Her decision to donate her prize money from "The Ten" to the "Katie Myer Memorial Fund" and why we need to start discussing mental health more
-Her involvement in "Voice in Sport" and why she thinks it's important to give back to the sport
-In a culture that is so fixated on results, how she has tried to detach yourself from what others think
-What she thinks the biggest misconception about Bowerman Track Club is
-The biggest lessons she's learned from her teammates
The amount of wisdom and advice Elise provides in this episode is incredible. Elise is a phenomenal runner, but an even better human being. The impact she is having on and off the track is astounding!
